• Our Profile

As a contemporary community choir, the Tema Youth Choir (TYC) was founded in November 2001 under the direction of Mr. Ebenezer A. Allotey. A relatively new entrant on the community choirs scene, the TYC has, thankfully, good professional leadership, committed membership, and a backbone of well-meaning benefactors, patrons, and Executive Board. Expectedly, the Choir has grown and progressed steadily over the period, and is now regarded by the general public as a leading Youth Choir in Ghana.

Aims & Objectives

  •  To share & develop musical skills, aptitudes and talents in the youth of Tema.
  • To provide opportunities for social interaction with choral music (with a bias for Christian & patriotic music) in Ghanaian communities, but most especially in the industrial city of Tema and its vicinity. To be an avenue for continuing social and Christian education of its members.
  • To be a leader in the production of Western choral classics, African/Ghanaian contemporary choral classics, folk, and patriotic choral music in Ghana and Africa.
  • To provide a nurturing ground for careers in music and the performing arts.

Events & Engagements

The TYC holds regular quarterly concerts each year. The 1st Quarter concerts are normally Easter Concerts; the 2nd Quarter concerts are normally Western Choral Classics (biased); the 3rd Quarter concerts are normally African/Ghanaian Contemporary Choral Classics (biased); and the 4th Quarter concerts are normally Christmas Concerts or Festivals of Nine Lessons and Carols. Other musical events are held from time to time, notably at prestigious venues in the major cities of Accra, Tema, and Kumasi.
